STYLES OF DANCE TAUGHT AT PLATINUM DANCE CENTRE
Our mini classes are for our youngest dancers from 2-4.5 years old and is an introduction to dance using creative, imaginative role-playing and fun props. Classes may involve pretending to be animals, learning balancing, skipping and running and techniques using costumes and ribbons, or picking up “diamonds” (shhh...they’re actually just feathers) from the ground to develop their hand-eye coordination. This class is suitable for both boys and girls who are having so much fun that they don't even realise that they are learning the fundamentals of dance technique along the way. We are offering a combination class of jazz & ballet in 2020.
Beginners, Junior, Intermediate, Petite & Senior Classes
Once they turn the big 5 and go into big school, or the older students in high school we offer a wide variety of styles that help each child find their passion for dance!
Classical Ballet: Ballet is the foundation for all dancing and whilst we encourage students to take a ballet class we understand it is not for everyone! Ballet is great for posture & poise, strength and uses a variety of different techniques to learn the fundamentals of dance. Younger grades are a great interactive start using Nursery Rhymes and Props whilst higher levels create mini dances to learn a wide variety of steps. There are opportunities for students in this class to participate in ballet exams which will encourage them to progress through the syllabus and work hard to move up into the next graded level.
Jazz: Our Jazz students are building on the basics of jazz technique to popular and age appropriate music. Some examples of the techniques our jazz students will learn include turns, kicks, leaps and body isolations. Flexibility, fitness and fun are the key elements to this class. This is a perfect class for those just starting out or not sure what style they would like to do. A dedicated program is used to ensure all students are progressing through the fundamentals and skills correctly. Opportunities for exams are also available for those wanting to participate.
Tap: In this class students would be learning the basics of tap technique as well as building on their sense of rhythm and their confidence when it comes to performances. Our tappers love dancing to popular, age-appropriate music and getting LOUD! Students are also working on specific tap syllabus work to ensure they are learning the steps correctly and can progress through the levels. Opportunities for exams are also available for those wanting to participate.
Acro: We’ve known for a long time that kids love nothing more than attempting and perfecting new “tricks.” Remember learning a cartwheel? We sure do, and it’s that sense of pride and exhilaration that we love to pass on to all students. Our Acro class is taught by our fully qualified Acro teachers, following a syllabus to ensure correct progressions are made. The levels are age based but ability will also be taken into consideration. We like to say Acro is the tumbling of gymnastics in a dance environment!
Hip Hop: The style they all love to do! There are so many different styles of hip hop from crumping to tutting, breaking and locking and the list goes on. We do try and cover most styles to ensure the students get a full understanding of the style. Age appropriate songs and moves are taken into consideration.
Modern Lyrical: This is perfect for our quieter, expressive students who like to keep things slow but not do ballet. Whilst a ballet background is encouraged it is not compulsory for our modern classes. Modern will help the students learn how to express emotions using the body and face.
Musical Theatre: What an introduction we had to this in 2017 and we can’t wait to expand on it in 2018 and years to come. This time our dedicated Musical Theatre program will help the students act, mime, pronuciate words and also put it all together with some dance steps! Last year saw us go back in time with Austin Powers and some Bathing Beauties, I wonder what it will be this year!
Cheerleading: This is such a fun mix of dance and acro/gymnastics for the students. Students in a large team and also smaller groups will learn essential tumbling, lifts, stunts, pyramids, jumps, dancing and so much more, It really is a great team effort sport. Following with worldwide guide lines, correct levels will be used to ensure the students safety. Think Old-School American Cheerleading!
Pom: Following on from cheerleading our Pom class incorporates Pom Poms in a jazz and stunting routine. Because who doesn’t love to use Pom Poms! Think Bring It On the movie.
Competition Teams & Soloists: We have had great success in previous years with our teams travelling all over to gain valuable experience, receive great feedback, receive wins or places and most of all had a huge amount of FUN! Please see our seperate information packs on being apart of this experience! Find out more here!
